SELECTED RESEARCH FINDINGS AND VERBATIMS

70 percent of Americans admit to at least one form of ice cream eating indiscretion, according to a nationwide Harris Interactive® survey conducted in conjunction with the launch of Indiscretion™ Luscious Ice Cream™, a new line of super premium ice cream.

Half of all Americans eat ice cream right out of the carton, according to the poll.

Single adults were somewhat more likely to have ice cream indiscretions than either married or divorced/separated/widowed adults.

Younger women ages 18 to 34 lead the pack in committing ice cream indiscretions. 37 percent eat ice cream instead of a meal; 21 percent sneak extra servings; 13 percent report keeping a secret stash; and 28 percent eat ice cream in bed.

Following are some of the answers provided when survey participants were asked: “What other ice cream indiscretions do you have?”

  • “Microwaving it and mixing it up to make it soft.”
  • “Has to go into the microwave for 10-20 seconds.”
  • “Licking the carton lid.”
  • “Eating it only during winter time.”
  • “Eating it with a fork.”
  • “Before a large meal – it keeps me from overeating.”
  • “Shaving just a little off so it won’t be noticed and ‘doesn’t count.’”
  • “Have ice cream instead of lunch.”
  • “I like to eat ice cream at an outdoor table even when it’s cold outside and I am FREEZING.”
  • “I share ice cream with one of my cats and we eat from the same spoon. This would sound pretty disgusting to a non-cat person.”
